Family Health Plus: What is it?
Oct 12th, 2009
A lot of people don’t realize that one of the best places in the United States to live is in New York state. Surprisingly, for such a populous area, New York State has some of the best public health insurance plans available in the whole country. As well as the best family health insurance programs, New York State offers a vast selection of health care facilities, as well as insurance representatives and providers.
One of the programs offered is Family Health Plus, which is a public health insurance program for adults who are between the ages of nineteen and sixty-four that have income over the allowable level to qualify them for the county’s Medicaid program. This program is available to people who are single, couples who do not have children, and parents who are United States citizens who reside in New York State or to people and couples who are eligible under one of the many immigration categories and programs available.
This great Family Health Plus program is a comprehensive coverage package that includes an assortment of medical coverage including primary care, preventative care, hospitalization, prescriptions, and other medical services. Some of the services have a minimal co-payment plan for some of the Family Health Plus services provided, as long as the health care is provided through participating managed healthcare plans in your area.
The Family Health Plus program, as well as the Child Health Plus benefit packages, added a full range of hospice services to their programs back in February of 2003, and today this new package covers more than ever before and is being managed quite effectively. The Family Health Plus program is only available to those who do not have health insurance, therefore if you have health insurance coverage already, you should not drop it in order to apply for Family Health Plus, although if an adult is covered for any of the following coverage they may still qualify for Family Health Plus. This coverage includes accident coverage or disability income insurance, supplemental liability insurance, liability insurance including insurance for auto, compensation –work or related, automotive medical payment insurance, disease coverage, hospital or fixed dollar indemnity coverage, prescription only coverage, and dental, visual, and long term care insurance.
If you are able to obtain employer-sponsored health insurance, you might be eligible to receive assistance with paying the premiums, co-insurance, co-payments, and deductibles through the Family Health Premium Assistance program.
